Quince

  • September 30, 2019

So what to do when a kind customer brings us in some lovely quince fruit. The fruit had just picked and why they did not want to keep it we will never know as just a simple bowl full of it makes a wonderful decoration! Anyway we got going and decided a nice autumn wreath would be very appropriate as it was getting to that time of the year. Now this is not a wreath you could use on an everyday door, it is very heavy! The constant opening and closing would surely knock a few of the fruit out. So an interior or exterior wall would be the best option.

We needed some other fresh elements to set the fruit against. So as we like to do we just had a look what was available to us, sometimes the best way without over thinking things, some fine oak leaves and some lovely smoke bush leaves which had just stared to turn would be perfect. A little bit tricky to make as all the fruit had to be wired. This in itself creates a problem as once the fruit has had its skin punctured then it starts to rot more quickly than normal. The leaves were then pushed and placed to fill any gaps.

A lovely old brick wall formed the perfect location to hang the wreath and the subtle green colours worked really well with the terracotta colours in the brickwork. This type of decoration would also work really well on a table with a lovely glass lantern in the middle of the wreath and an appropriate colour candle burning away in it.

Thanks to Kayleigh for the time spent making the wreath, Keith took care of photography.
